About

My philosophical studies were completed at the University of Edinburgh (1990-1994) and the Albert-Ludwigs-Universitaet Freiburg im Breisgau (1994-1998). After teaching philosophy at the universities of Edinburgh and Dundee and aesthetics at the Edinburgh College of Art (1998-2000) I taught at  University College Dublin between 2000 and 2008. Since moving to Oregon I have taught at the University of Oregon and Oregon State University and currently hold a faculty position at Portland State. I have most recently published two books: Constructing Community with Lexington Books (approaches to community in contemporary continental philosophy and urbanism) and Walter Benjamin for Architects for Routledge. My areas of specialization and competence include: modern and contemporary continental philosophy, especially the phenomenological and hermeneutical traditions; continental aesthetics and art theory; theories of space and architecture; visual and urban studies.
